Hobin Yi

Hobin Yi is a South Korean violinist based in Germany and a member of the Staatsorchester Braunschweig. Alongside his orchestral work, he maintains an active career as a chamber musician and soloist, performing regularly in concerts and festivals across Europe.

He completed his Konzertexamen at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, studying with Prof. Andrej Bielow. His musical training has taken him to the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig, and the Hochschule für Musik “Carl Maria von Weber” Dresden, where his teachers included Prof. Susanna Yoko Henkel, Prof. Carolin Widmann, Hellen Weiß, and Eva Dollfuß.

An avid chamber musician, Hobin Yi has appeared at international festivals such as the Musethica Festival in Zaragoza, Harmos Festival in Porto, Musicalta Festival Alsace, Kammermusikfestival Schwandorf, and Bachfest Leipzig.

His orchestral work has led to collaborations with ensembles including the Dresdner Philharmonie, MDR Sinfonieorchester, Staatskapelle Halle, and Kammerakademie Potsdam, as well as participation in the Grafenegg and Davos Festival Orchestras.

He has further refined his artistry through masterclasses with musicians such as Prof. Igor Ozim, Prof. Nora Chastain, Prof. Mi-Kyung Lee, Prof. Krzysztof Węgrzyn, Prof. Pavel Vernikov, Prof. Nam Yun Kim, Prof. Jan Bjøranger, Prof. Erik Schumann, and Prof. Latica Honda-Rosenberg.

In 2024, he received First Prize at the Virtuoso & Belcanto Concerto Competition in Italy and a Special Prize at the International Knopf Violin Competition. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Sinfonie Orchester Berlin in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie.

He currently performs on a George Chanot 1840 violin, kindly on loan from the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf and the Kulturstiftung Wasserburg zum Haus.
