Gabriele Ragghianti

Gabriele Ragghianti was born in Lucca, the city with an important musical tradition, where Guami, Boccherini, Geminiani, Catalani and Puccini were born.

He graduated at the Music Institute “Luigi Boccherini” with honors and the special mention  of  the Ministry of Education.

Gabriele has been awarded several prizes in several national as well as international competitions.

He has been playing as principal double bass with the “A. Toscanini” Orchestra of Emilia Romagna, the Orchestra of Tuscany, the Municipal Orchestra of Bologna, the Chamber Orchestra of Mantova, the Italian Chamber Orchestra of Salvatore Accardo,

the S. Carlo Theatre of Naples and the Gulbenkian Orchestra of Lisbon.

He has played as a soloist in numerous countries: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Unites States, Japan, China, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, Finland, Hong Kong, Mexico, Korea, Kenya Ecuador, Estonia, India, Indonesia, Latvia, Malaysia, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Russia, Paraguay, Peru, Singapore, Thailand, Ukraine, Paraguay, Uruguay, Vietnam, Venezuela as well as all over Europe.

Since 1988 he has been playing as a soloist and principal double bass with the world famous orchestra “I Solisti Veneti”.

During his carrier Gabriele has performed in more than 2.500 concerts as soloist in over 85 different countries and in many important concert halls like the Schauspielehaus of Berlin, the Stefaniensaal of Graz, the Auditorium of the Rice University of Houston, the Every Fisher Hall in New York for the Mostly Mozart festival, the Musik Verein of Wien, the Coliseo Theatre of Buenos Aires, the Salle Pleyel of Paris, the Lincoln Center of New York, the Felsenreitschule of Salzburg, the Tchaikowskij hall in Moscow.

He has performed numerous radio and television recordings in Italy as well as abroad. He has also contributed in the recording of over 150 disks in cooperation with world wide famous soloists for the major labels (Erato, BMG…).

He is currently performing an intense chamber activity in collaboration with well-known musicians such as M. Brunello, V. Tretiakov, S. Azzolini, A. Nannoni, A. Farulli, M. Postinghel.

Winner of the national competition for Conservatoire teachers, he tought in important Italian conservatory since 1989, in Mantova, Modena, La Spezia.

Among his students winners of prizes and auditions for positions in important orchestras as the National Orchestra of S.t Cecilia in Rome, the Teatro Comunale of Florence, the Orchestra of the “La Fenice” Theatre of Venice, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the A. Toscanini Orchestra of Parma, the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio of Turin, the RAI Television National Orchestra, the Cagliari orchestra Theatre etc..

Gabriele is a double bass Professor at the Royal College of Music of London and at the Istituto Superiore di studi musicali “Luigi Boccherini” of Lucca, he is “instructor” for the University of Colorado’s abroad teaching program and is invited as teacher by important Musical Institutions in Italy and abroad, among them Musica Riva Festival, the New York
