Wenting Kang<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator style=”shadow” el_width=”80″ css=”.vc_custom_1669652884720{padding-top: 50px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}”][vc_column_text]Chinese violist Wenting Kang was praised by The New York Times as an \u201cexcellent violist\u201d who \u201cpossesses a dark, glowing sound\u201d following her performance at Carnegie Hall. Her playing has also been described as \u201celegant,\u201d \u201cprecise,\u201d and \u201cpure,\u201d with a \u201ctone passionate without ever losing a sense of control\u201d by The Boston Musical Intelligencer.<\/p>\n
Her debut recording with pianist Sergei Kvitko, \u201cMosaic\u201d (2022), received widespread critical acclaim. Gramophone Magazine wrote, \u201cPart of the allure is her golden and glowing tone, but the subtlety of her shading is just as transfixing\u2026 Her technique is close to flawless\u2026 A terrific programme in every way.\u201d The album was awarded the Gold Medal and named a Recommended CD by Mel\u00f3mano Magazine (Spain). Tracks from \u201cMosaic\u201d were featured on Spotify\u2019s Best New Classical Music playlist and the American Society of Composers, authors and Publishers\u2019 New Music Friday playlist. Kang has also collaborated with conductor Gil Rose and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, releasing a recording of George Perle\u2019s Serenade No. 1.<\/p>\n
As a soloist, Kang has appeared with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinf\u00f3nica de Madrid, M\u00e1laga Philharmonic Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, TOHO Gakuen Orchestra, Orquesta Cl\u00e1sica Santa Cecilia, and the Madrid Soloists Chamber Orchestra, collaborating with conductors including Ivor Bolton, Michiyoshi Inoue, Koichiro Harada, and Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Moreno. Her repertoire includes Don Quixote, the viola concertos of Bart\u00f3k, Walton, and Elgar, and Mozart\u2019s Sinfonia Concertante.<\/p>\n
An active chamber musician, Kang has shared the stage with artists such as Nobuko Imai, Kim Kashkashian, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Christoph Richter, Bruno Giuranna, and Christian Tetzlaff. From 2018 to 2020, she was a member of the Dalia String Quartet, and in 2017 she co-founded the Imai Viola Quartet. Additionally, she is the founding member of the Madrid Soloist Chamber Orchestra.<\/p>\n
Kang is the First Prize winner of the 2nd Tokyo International Viola Competition and has also received prizes at the Johannes Brahms International Competition and the Primrose International Viola Competition. She studied at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the New England Conservatory, and Kronberg Academy, working with distinguished teachers including Nobuko Imai, Kim Kashkashian, Garth Knox, Donald Weilerstein, Miriam Fried, Liangsheng Chen, and Changhai Wang.<\/p>\n
From September 2025, Kang joins the Viola Faculty of the New England Conservatory in Boston. Between 2016 and 2025, she served as Assistant Professor alongside Nobuko Imai at the Escuela Superior de M\u00fasica Reina Sof\u00eda in Madrid.
