COMPETITIONS

The Virtuoso&Belcanto Festival Competitions are reserved exclusively for students enrolled in the advanced courses.

Registrations will be collected exclusively through an online form that will be shared with the admitted students.

Deadline for enrolling in our competitions is June 30th, 2023.

STEP 1

Concerto Competition

All accepted and enrolled students in the advanced instrumental courses will be eligible to participate in the competition, upon registration and submission of the chosen repertoire no later than June 30th, 2023.

The Concerto Competitions winners will give a solo concerto in one of the following Concert Series:

  • ORT- Orchestra della Toscana – Summer Concert Series;
  • Orchestra Nuova Scarlatti di Napoli – Concert Series held in Naples;
  • La Filharmonie – Orchestra Filarmonica, Florence.

Further collaboration agreements are in progress.

The repertoire, freely chosen by the candidate, must be solo concertos selected from the Classical / Romantic / Modern periods.

The competition will consist of two rounds:

Semi-final – Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 at 15:00

Students in the semi-final will have to choose two different solo concertos, exhibiting different styles and from different periods. The contestant will have to play two movements: one selected by the contestant (from the 1st concerto) and one chosen by the judges (from the 2nd concerto).

The overall duration of the performance is 20 minutes. The juries will be formed by the teachers of the respective programs.

Final – Friday, July 28th, 2023 at 10:00

The performance of a solo concerto was selected from the two concertos presented in the semi-final round. The maximum duration of the performance: 25 minutes.

A maximum of 14 candidates will be admitted to the final round. The Jury Committee will comprise the Artistic Director of the Virtuoso&Belcanto Festival, some of the Professors of the advanced courses, and representatives of the Institutional partners.

STEP 2

Chamber Music Competition

The Chamber Music Competition will be held Sunday, July 23rd, 2023 at 10:00 am. The deadline for ensembles to register and communicate the repertoire is June 30th, 2023.

Only chamber groups enrolled in the courses can take part in the competition

The program has a free choice of repertoire of music composed after 1750 (arrangements provided by the composer or authorized by him/her are admitted), for a maximum total duration of circa 20 minutes.

The string quartets must perform at least one piece from the classical period (one movement is also acceptable).

The string quartet winner of the Adolfo Betti Award will have to perform in a concert organized by Animando – Centro di Promozione Musicale, under penalty of forfeiture of the award.

Winners may be notified of possible concerts in future seasons of Italian and international concert organizations.

Chamber Music Competition scholarship – Luigi Boccherini Award:

  • 1st prize: €2.500
  • 2nd prize: €1.500
  • 3rd prize: €1.000
  • Premio Adolfo Betti for the best string quartet: € 3.000 (offered by Animando – Centro di promozione musicale)
