Concerto Competition

The Concerto Competitions winners will give a solo concerto in one of the following Concert Series:

  • ORT – Orchestra della Toscana – Summer Concert series;
  • Populäre Konzerte at the Berlin Philharmonie Concert Hall – Sinfonie Orchester Berlin;
  • Orchestra Nuova Scarlatti Napoli – Concert series held in Naples;
  • La Filharmonie – Orchestra Filarmonica, Florence.

Further collaboration agreements are in progress.

All accepted and enrolled students in the Virtuoso & Belcanto advanced instrumental courses (piano, violin, viola and cello) will be eligible to participate in the competition, upon registration and submission of the chosen repertoire no later than 10 June 2022.  

The repertoire, freely chosen by the candidate, must be solo concertos selected from the Classical / Romantic / Modern periods. 

The competition will consist of two rounds: semi-final and final.

Semi-final

Performance of two movements from two different solo concertos, exhibiting different styles and from different periods; the contestant may choose one movement and the judges will choose another one. 

Maximum duration: 20 minutes.

The semifinal will take place within its own instrumental group and course program, with juries consisting of the teachers of the respective programs, by Sunday 24 July 2022.

Final

Performance of a solo concerto selected from the two concertos presented in the semi-final round. 

Maximum duration: 25 minutes.

A maximum of 14 candidates will be admitted to the final round.

The Jury Committee will be comprised by the Artistic Director of the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival, some Professors of the Virtuoso & Belcanto advanced courses, and from representatives of the Institutional partners. 

The final will be held by Saturday 30 July 2022.
